The
efforts of Belitsa are focused on conservation and maintenance of the existing
self-regulating ecosystems, the diversity of species and the habitats of rare
and endangered types of plant and animal communities. The park area „Belitsa”
part of the protected Rila National Park shelters biodiversity of international
significance, which determines the high conservation value of Belitsa area.
This is the place where the chamois, the deer, the wild boar and the wolf are
best represented. In the vicinity of Suhoto lake is situated one of the few
habitats of the glacial relict species Alpine newt. Along the ridge of the highest
peaks Vapata and Chemerna in Belitsa park area runs the border of the biggest
nature reserve on the Balkan Peninsula –Central Rila Reserve – inhabited by
protected species listed in the Red Data Book, namely Brown Bear, Pine Marten,
Capercaillie and Hazel Grouse .
Thanks to its beautiful conserved nature coupled with developed tourist infrastructure
Belitsa can offer interesting opportunities for active and pleasant recreation,
either individual or in groups, to lovers of eco- and hobby-tourism. Six tourist
trails have been marked in view of the biodiversity in the Musala section of
Rila mountain, with two of these paths penetrating the territory of Rila National
Park reaching out to Suhoto Ezero lake and Vapskite Ezera lakes. Feeding-troughs
for wild animals, watch towers for the observation and photographing of wild
animals in their natural environment, a shelter, water fountains, arbours and
safety-proof fire places have been constructed along their routes. The Tourist
information centre provides services to tourists.

Tourist trails pass through different ecosystems and different plant and animal
communities. Each eco-trail is given an interpretation and is devoted to a specific
key subject – The Temple of Eternity, The Mystery of the Peat Ground, Along
the Glacier’s Trails, The Lord of the Mountains, The Guardian of Life and The
Flying Flowers.
