The
vast glades of Semkovo (some 1600 ì above the sea level) are located at 17 km
north of the town of Belitsa. The chalet of Semkovo and two of the entry points
for Rila National Park are not far from there. A well-kept asphalt road will
take you to Semkovo. The resort is the starting point for a few eco-trails.
The range of accommodation and holiday facilities available is extensive – hotels,
a holiday complex, comfortable bungalows, sports grounds, a swimming pool etc.
In winter Semkovo is a busy ski-resort. The long-lasting thick snow cover in
this part of the mountain, 9 ski-runs of differing difficulty and ranging between
1050-300 m, 8 short ski tracks with mild slopes and the numerous ski lifts with
high capacity attract many lovers of winter sports. Bulgarian university professors
and students often spend their holidays here and in late February students,
tourists and citizens of the town make a big winter feast – Bela Itsa fiesta.
